UKick’s David Robson and Phil Law, who made a name for themselves with a legendary appearance on BBC’s Dragon’s Den, will be in Hamleys Regent Street this Saturday 26th September from 09:30 – 13:00.
UKick, which is best described as a fusion of badminton and street football, was spotted by David on his travels around Far East Asia. A fresh, modern update to the traditional game of jianzi, the aim is simple: keep UKick off the ground with either your hands or feet. Hailed for its wide appeal, the user can adjust UKick’s weighted pro discs to suit their skill level, attracting both adults and children, boys and girls – Everton stars Romelu Lukaku and Kevin Mirallas were recently spotted using UKick as part of their training. What’s more, with an array of brightly coloured feathers to be swapped amongst friends, the Dragons noted the product’s attractive presentation and on-point branding. Den heavy weight Kelly Hoppen commented, “It’s got legs, this thing.”
Despite an initially positive response from the Dragons, David and his business partner Phil Law did not secure their target; £60k funding for a 25% share of the business. Undeterred, the boys intend to show the Dragons that success is indeed the best revenge by following in the footsteps of former Dragon’s Den inventor Rachael Lowe. Despite being mocked for her lack of business knowledge, Rachel later launched her board game Destination London in Hamleys and it became the top selling item both in-store and online.
David commented on the Hamleys launch “It’s been an exhausting yet exhilarating journey taking UKick from inception to where we are today – with the product being backed by a major UK distributor and stocked in all good retailers. I wouldn’t change it for a second, I can’t wait to see what this thing can do. Let the UKick craze commence!”
David and Phil will be signing purchased UKicks and giving live demos.
Come and join the fun!
On 11th July we’re launching our ‘Swap Screen Time for Play Time’ campaign to encourage everyone to play outside!
Simply bring your phone and family or friends down to our Head Office in Wimbledon and hand over your prized phone, tablet or any high tech device and you’ll receive a box containing an array of this years’ must have summer toys.
Play until your hearts content – confident in the knowledge that your phone will be held securely in your absence – and once you’re done, simply hand back the toys to reclaim your phone!
So why’s it such a good idea? Well, many of us are constantly “connected” via our phones that we find it hard to unplug and digitally detox ourselves, even for a couple of hours. We’re constantly staring at a screen of some kind when we’re walking, commuting, exercising and worst of all, when playing with our kids – in fact, studies have found that the average Brit spends more than half of their waking life staring at a screen.
Wicked’s Managing Director, David Strang (pictured below) comments “we just want to give people the chance to spend time away from all the technological distractions that get in the way of quality bonding time with friends or family.”
He continues “we trialed the service in April with locals and they reported feeling “freer – happier” even – as well as just having a great time with their loved ones. Some of the parents confessed to feeling “guilty” that they didn’t spend enough one on one time with their kids without having their phones on them 24/7. We all need a little help to disconnect in order to reconnect – we like to think that Wicked is here to help.”
There’s no time limit to how long you can keep the toy box and you’re welcome to take it wherever you like (a good opportunity to make use of South London’s vast array of outdoor spaces). Each box contains at least 10 toys including the Wicked Sonic Booma, a whistling version of the world’s best returning boomerang and UKick, which received the award for Best New Outdoor Toy at London Toy Fair as well as popular classics such as the Sky Rider Ultimate Flying Disc. All of the toys are designed for active, outdoor play for ages 4 and upwards.
The campaign runs for the first two weeks of the school summer holidays from 11th to 25th July 2015 – one box per party, no pre booking necessary. Please note that the office is open from 9AM – 5PM Monday – Friday.
Grassy knees and nettle stings, remember those? Remember feeling like an unstoppable explorer, poking snails and mixing up mud pies? If reminiscing about the above brought a smile to your face – good, because we’ve had enough of all these technological distractions getting in the way. Being the subversive thinkers that we are, we want to bring back the phenomenon of outdoor play. Call us Luddites, but we happen to believe that active, outdoor play is good for the mind and spirit. Our mission is simple, we want kids to put down their tablets and turn off the telly. To throw caution to the wind and to exercise their legs, not just their fingers. So be crazy, get your kids outside, come and play with us.

What a year it’s been at Wicked! To top it off, Managing Director David Strang was awarded Silver for the Manufacturing Entrepreneur of the Year Award 2014.
The award was delivered in style with an evening of glitz and glamour at London’s Old Billingsgate, hosted by the one and only Gyles Brandreth.
In the space of 15 years, Wicked has grown drastically to become the world’s largest manufacturer of returning boomerangs and now export to over 35 major international markets – even Australia.
With over 88% of today’s toys being manufactured in China, Wicked well and truly buck the trend by producing all of its boomerangs and flying toys in the UK.
Selling over 5 million tri-blade boomerangs every year, Wicked’s success is attributed to David’s flair for taking a product from concept to reality to international acclaim. “It’s been an incredible journey since I started Wicked Vision* back in 1999,” comments David. “There have been challenges of every kind. My dream was always to produce boomerangs and export them internationally and I’ve never lost sight of that.” To date, David has thrown a boomerang in more than 80 cities and 30 different countries.
Having grown up in Australia, David spotted a gap in the UK market upon settling in London. “There were boomerangs, of course, but none of them actually worked.” He began by pioneering a soft and safe indoor boomerang to overcome the challenge posed by a cooler climate. Two years later, a fool proof range of tri-blade indoor and outdoor boomerangs were brought to market.
The company has recently launched the world’s most expensive production boomerang and flying disc made of proudly British made carbon fibre under a new, premium brand; Wicked Carbon.
Do you spend the final few months subtly scrutinizing the latest tastes, fads and fashions of your loved one in an attempt to pinpoint that perfect gift? Fret no more! Wicked has come to the rescue – just in time for Christmas.
Wicked is proud to unveil a premium range of proudly British made flying toys featuring the world’s most expensive production boomerang and flying disc under its new brand, Wicked Carbon.
Crafted from high grade carbon fibre and made right here in the UK, the Wicked Carbon Booma and Wicked Sky Rider Carbon are a playful fusion of style and substance. The result of over two years of development, both items are skilfully hand laid to achieve a beautiful silky black and silver finish.
Forming part of a limited collection of just 300 pieces to be sold worldwide, each item will be personally signed and numbered by owner and developer, David Strang, and accompanied by an instructional video nestled into bespoke packaging.
Both Wicked Carbon Booma and Wicked Sky Rider Carbon are a triumph of British craftsmanship and a delight to own either as a presentation piece or as a high performing flying toy for the discerning adult- come- child in us all.
From September 2014, we are delighted to welcome National Sales Manager, Mark Holland, to the team.
Mark will handle all of Wicked’s national accounts, taking over from Managing Director David Strang who will now focus on the business’s fast growing global accounts as well as new product development.
“The timing could not have been better,” David noted, “it has certainly been a busy time for us. The company has experienced substantial growth in the past 12 months, increasing the product range by a third and expanding into 15 major international markets.”
“I am thrilled to join the business at this crucial time,” comments Mark, “I was struck by the team’s ambition, enthusiasm and their forward thinking approach. Exciting times lie ahead and I cannot wait to get started.”
Mark has over 20 years of sales experience in both B2B and B2C sectors, 10 of which have been within the toys, gift and game industry.
This year, Wicked marked its 10 year anniversary of manufacturing boomerangs here in the UK by releasing the world’s most expensive production boomerang and flying disc under a new, premium brand: Wicked Carbon.
With a host of new and exciting products on the horizon for 2015 – Wicked is definitely staying true to its motto: “There’s no rest for the Wicked!”
Wicked UKick featured on BBC’s Dragons’ Den on Sunday 10th August (and again on Monday 11th!). Despite not receiving an investment, UKick Developers David and Phil made a great impression with the Dragons, with Kelly Hoppen remarking “I think it’s got legs, this thing!” We’ll take that as a compliment, Kelly.
