What a year it’s been at Wicked! To top it off, Managing Director David Strang was awarded Silver for the Manufacturing Entrepreneur of the Year Award 2014.
The award was delivered in style with an evening of glitz and glamour at London’s Old Billingsgate, hosted by the one and only Gyles Brandreth.
In the space of 15 years, Wicked has grown drastically to become the world’s largest manufacturer of returning boomerangs and now export to over 35 major international markets – even Australia.
With over 88% of today’s toys being manufactured in China, Wicked well and truly buck the trend by producing all of its boomerangs and flying toys in the UK.
Selling over 5 million tri-blade boomerangs every year, Wicked’s success is attributed to David’s flair for taking a product from concept to reality to international acclaim. “It’s been an incredible journey since I started Wicked Vision* back in 1999,” comments David. “There have been challenges of every kind. My dream was always to produce boomerangs and export them internationally and I’ve never lost sight of that.” To date, David has thrown a boomerang in more than 80 cities and 30 different countries.
Having grown up in Australia, David spotted a gap in the UK market upon settling in London. “There were boomerangs, of course, but none of them actually worked.” He began by pioneering a soft and safe indoor boomerang to overcome the challenge posed by a cooler climate. Two years later, a fool proof range of tri-blade indoor and outdoor boomerangs were brought to market.
The company has recently launched the world’s most expensive production boomerang and flying disc made of proudly British made carbon fibre under a new, premium brand; Wicked Carbon.
